Yo, Adrian, Rocky is about to become a musical!
That’s the word spreading across the Internet today, at least, as actor Sylvester Stallone and real-life pugilists Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko took to a stage in Hamburg to announce the project.
If you’re wondering how producers will turn a film about a boxer into a musical, you’re not alone. Stallone insists that this new take on Rocky will focus on the driving love story underneath the in-ring action. No, not the love between Rock and Mick, but the love affair with Adrian. “At the end of the day, Rocky is a love story and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian,” Stallone says.
The actor goes on to mention how seeing his Oscar-winning film made into a musical makes him and Rocky proud.
Stallone is dead serious about the project, having hired a bevy of talented Broadway veterans to guide the production. Sources are saying the musical will feature songs from the films, including Eye of the Tiger and Gonna Fly Now.
The Klitschkos, meanwhile, will train whoever lands the title role so they can pull off the boxing part of the role that goes alongside the singing.
Rocky: The Musical is budgeted at $15 million dollars and set to debut in Hamburg next November. If all goes well, plans are in the works to bring the show Stateside at some point.
What do you think? Is Rocky the next Lion King or is it more likely destined to be Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark?
