Indie Box Office: While the latest installment of the Twilight series dominated the mainstream box office, Alexander Payne’s The Descendants, starring George Clooney, did very nicely for itself in limited release. Opening on 29 screens, the film scored an average average take of $42,150, placing the film in the overall top ten. (Indiewire)

Join the Crowd, At Home: What if you could “stream and simultaneously view [movies or TV shows] with up to 11 different” friends -- or 60 strangers? That’s the pitch for Sony’s “digital group hangout” concept, now available for Play Station 3 owners via the Crackle streaming service. (PC Mag)

A Generous Co-Star: In her new memoir, Then Again, Diane Keaton describes 2003‘s Something’s Gotta Give, a romantic comedy in which she co-starred with Jack Nicholson, as “my favorite film.” She also notes that two years after the movie opened, she unexpectedly received a check “with a lot of zeroes" in the mail; it turns out Nicholson gave her a piece of his deal for a percentage of the film’s grosses. (The Observer)

A Movie Divides a Family: Carl Colby made a documentary, The Man Nobody Knew, about his late father, which has reportedly disturbed his stepmother and other members of his family. In itself, that might not be news ... except that the dead man in question is William Colby, former director of the CIA, the stepmother is a former U.S. ambassador, and son Carl suggests that his father committed suicide. Oh, boy. (Washington Post)
