The award-winning composer who scored Captain America's solo adventure will be tasked with creating the musical signature of next year's massive team-up movie that puts Cap on the same screen with Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Nick Fury, Black Widow, and a host of other Marvel heroes (and villains).
"This is actually a very unique experience [for me]," Silvestri told Marvel.com. "I've worked on films where there have been a number of stars and certainly worked on films where there have been characters of equal weight in terms of their level of importance and profile in the film, but this one is somewhat extreme in that regard because each of these characters has their own world and it's a very different situation."
"It's very challenging to look for a way to give everyone the weight and consideration they need, but at the same time the film is really about the coming together of these characters, which implies that there is this entity called the Avengers which really has to be representative of all of them together," he added.
No stranger to genre projects, Silvestri has been nominated for -- and won -- several awards for his musical contributions to a number of popular (and somewhat less-revered) films, including "Forrest Gump," "Back to the Future," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," and "Predator." (Bet you never expected to see all of those films mentioned in the same sentence.)
Most recently, Silvestri was nominated for an Oscar and won a Grammy for his work on "The Polar Express."
"It's always an interesting process, of confronting the film and having a chance to live with it a bit and internalize it a little bit," he said of working on projects heavily steeped in fantasy elements like "The Avengers."
"I am just at the beginning stages of all of that right now and it's feeling very good," he conitnued. "I am looking forward to seeing the evolution of this film. Joss Whedon has really done something magnificent and I think everyone who loves Marvel and their films will especially enjoy this one."
"The Avengers" hits theaters May 4, 2012.
